Native American & Indigenous Studies (NAIS)

A guide to doing research in the Mt. SAC library for Native American & Indigenous Studies Topics

Looking for Books?

Because NAIS is an interdisciplinary field, there won't be one section of the library's shelves you can visit to find all of the NAIS books. You will find them throughout our book stacks depending on the lens through which the book is written, for example, history, psychology, sociology, fine arts, communication, etc.

Looking for books? Use OneSearch to find books we have here in the library and online. Most of our physical books are located on the main floor of the Mt. SAC library.

eBooks may also be retrieved from databases. Here are some examples:

Why Indigenous Literatures Matter

"Literature as a category is about what's important to a culture, the stories that are privileged and honoured, the narratives that people-often those in power, but also those resisting that power-believe to be central to their understanding of the world and their place in relation to it."  -Daniel Heath Justice in Why Indigenous Literatures Matter
