The following guide was created for Professor Curiel's spring 2010 Speech 1A class, but it may be helpful to other students that are conducting research for papers and presentations related to implementing solutions to current issues.

Research Tips

  1. Start early— leave yourself enough time. Try using this online assignment calculator from the University of Minnesota to help you plan.
  2. Take good notes on:
    • Content
    • Search terms & databases
    • Your sources and their citation information 
  3. Talk with friends, professors, librarians throughout the process
  4. Read as you go. What you learn will inform your searching
