Criminology Research

This guide was developed for students in SOC 5, Introduction to Criminology. It may be useful to other students, who are conducting research on crime.

Reference Sources

Reference sources are a great place to start your research.  They provide overviews of broad topics and confirm facts.

Use reference sources to:

  • understand the broad issue
  • refine your topic
  • learn technical language
  • develop list of search terms

Reference Databases

The following databases are helpful for finding background information on a topic. In order to access them, you must log into your Mt. SAC Portal account.

Selected Reference Works

Following is a small sample of reference books, which may be helpful to your research.  Additional reference books are available - stop by the Library Reference Desk to learn about other titles.  Please remember that reference books are "library use only" - you cannot check them out.
