  • Reference sources
  • Images
  • Articles
  • Books

These sources of information are available in print and online format.

Online resources are available to Mt. SAC students, faculty and staff.  Off-campus use requires login with your Mt. SAC username and password.

Searching Online Resources

When searching online resources, it is recommended that you search approximately 2 - 3 keywords or subject headings.  You combine them with search operators, such as AND and OR.  The use of quotes may also assist in retrieving the exact phrase.  A few examples follow below:

  • "endangered species"
  • "food supply" and world
  • famines and "food relief" and India

You can search for your terminology as a keyword or across the complete text of the document.  If you wish to search a specific subject heading, be sure to check the database's thesaurus first.

Using the system "wild card" characters may also help.  For example, in Ebscohost Academic Search Complete:

  • biofuel* and "food pric*"

Try to check the Subject and/or Subject:Thesaurus Term section on the left when using Academic Search Premier
