About the Mini-Certificate Series

About the Series: Generative AI & Information Literacy

With the rapid advancement of generative AI technologies transforming many aspects of our daily lives, it's more important than ever to understand the foundational concepts and their broader implications.

Generative AI & Information Literacy is a three-part, self-paced course series developed by Mt. SAC librarians to provide students with a solid introduction to generative AI. The series covers essential topics such as how generative AI works, its connection to information literacy, AI bias, and how to use these technologies ethically and responsibly.

The Three Mini-Courses

  1. Generative AI: The Basics
Start here. This course introduces the core principles of generative AI and lays the groundwork for the other two courses. It’s recommended to take this one first.

  2. Generative AI and Information Literacy
Learn how generative AI intersects with research, evaluation of sources, and critical thinking in the digital age.

  3. AI Biases and Ethical Use
Explore the ethical implications of generative AI, including how bias is embedded in AI systems and what it means to use AI responsibly.

How It Works

  • All three courses are self-paced and hosted on Canvas.

  • You can take the second and third courses in any order after completing Generative AI: The Basics.

  • Upon completing any course, you’ll receive a digital certificate.

  • Complete all three courses to earn a print certificate and a free gift (while supplies last).
