Health Equity

Health equity means that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to live a healthy life. It recognizes that people have different needs, and some may face more barriers to good health than others.

Key ideas of health equity:

  • Everyone should have access to quality health care, no matter their background
  • Health should not be affected by things like race, income, age, language, or where you live
  • Social factors (e.g. housing, education, and job opportunities) can impact health
  • Achieving equity means removing barriers so that everyone can get the care they need

Health equity focuses on creating a system that is inclusive, fair, and responsive to each person's unique situation. "Health equity is achieved when everyone can attain their full potential for health and well-being" (WHO).
